I would like to Pierce Anthony...

Just finished reading "Currant Events" by Piers Anthony. I'm not the biggest fan of fantasy works but I have read a reasonable amount. But this is the first time I've ever read anything by this guy. Enough with the puns already!!! SOME of them are funny. Most of them are interesting. But in that quantity, at that frequency, it's just too much. The book is full of them. As are (apparently) all his other Xanth books. I understant that that's the point, but still... Whew!

On a more positive note, I do have to say that it is a refreshing change from the usual fantasy genre fare. It's certainly a different way of writing (especially considering the fact that he wholeheartedly accepts reader suggestions). And the plot was sufficiently attention-grabbing. I did read the whole book. But I may not ever read another.

If you read it, don't forget the "Author's Note" at the end. It tells of his adventures with his computer's operating system and other behind-the-scenes commentary.

Hey Rand, I'm back in the blogging world, so sayin' hi :) Was wondering, have you read and are you going to see "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy"? Maybe I missed that in an early post...

Yeah, it looks pretty good and the book (what I've read of it) as good. But I've got kids and no babysitter, so me and the little woman don't usually get to watch too many movies in the theatre. Maybe we'll get lucky.

Wow. I just read this SF/Fantasy collusion, "Donnerjack." The ideas were awesome, but the writing, a little on the romance novel-ish side, corny lines and the occasional really bad writing. But yeah, I'd kill for an imagination like the author's.

I've got to read that "Donnerjack". Anything that gets such a wide range of reviews has got to be good.
